Frequently Ask Questions

1. Finding the Right Fit?

1. Finding the Right Fit?

  • We specialize in serving ambitious professionals, families, business owners, and do-it-yourself (DIY) investors who want strategic financial guidance without relinquishing control of their assets. If you are looking for a CFP® to help with cash flow, tax planning, business growth, and investment clarity, we are an excellent fit.
  • No, we do not require any minimum portfolio size or net worth. Because we charge a flat fee for our planning services rather than a percentage of your assets, we are able to provide high-quality advice whether you are just starting your wealth accumulation journey or managing a complex business exit strategy.
  • It is never too early to start building a solid financial foundation. Because our flat-fee model does not require a minimum portfolio size, we regularly help clients who are organizing their finances, optimizing cash flow, or navigating a career transition to get back on track and start writing a better financial story.
  • Life Planning is designed to structure your wealth to actively fund the lifestyle, legacy, and chapters of life you care about, whereas traditional planning often focuses solely on making portfolio numbers go up. We align your financial strategy directly with your personal values so you achieve not just financial security, but actual freedom of choice.
2. Our Philosophy & Fees

2. Our Philosophy & Fees

  • Being a fiduciary means we are legally and ethically obligated to act in your best interest 100% of the time. We do not sell products, earn commissions, or accept kickbacks, keeping our advice highly objective and aligned entirely with your goals.
  • We minimize conflicts by operating as a strictly Fee-Only firm, meaning we are paid exclusively by our clients for our advice. We never take a percentage of your assets (AUM) or accept third-party compensation, meaning our recommendations are based solely on what is right for your financial story.
  • A Flat-Fee advisor charges a transparent, set dollar amount for their advice, while an Assets Under Management (AUM) advisor charges a percentage of your investment portfolio. Our flat-fee model ensures your advisory costs do not automatically increase simply because your investments grow, you sold a business, or you received an inheritance.

  • We charge transparent, flat fees that align with the specific phase of our relationship. Most clients begin with a one-time, project-based fee for their initial Comprehensive Financial Plan. Once your foundational plan is complete, you can choose to continue working with us on an as-needed hourly basis or transition into an ongoing partnership billed on a monthly basis. You will always know exactly what you are paying upfront.

  • A CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) is a professional who has met rigorous, standardized requirements in education, experience, and ethics.Brian holds the CFP® designation and is required to act as a fiduciary in all client engagements.
3. Investment & Tax Strategy

3. Investment & Tax Strategy

  • Our Advice-Only model is built perfectly for DIY investors; we provide the strategic roadmap and a professional second opinion, and you execute the trades. We review your asset allocation, validate your strategy, and optimize for tax efficiency without ever requiring you to hand over the keys to your accounts.
  • Chapters To Wealth never takes custody of your funds; your money remains entirely in your own accounts at a secure, independent custodian of your choosing (such as Charles Schwab or Fidelity). You retain total control and simply use our guidance to help manage those assets effectively.
  • No, we advise on the entire picture of your balance sheet, not just traditional market investments. Because our flat-fee model means we aren't paid based on how much money you keep in the stock market, we can provide highly objective advice on real estate, alternative investments, and often most importantly, reinvesting in your own business or career capital.
  • A financial plan is the comprehensive roadmap for your entire life, covering cash flow, taxes, insurance, and retirement goals, while investment management is simply the act of buying and selling securities. We focus on the overarching plan to help align your investments so they actually serve a specific purpose in your life.
  • Tax planning is a proactive, year-round strategy to help minimize your lifetime tax burden, while tax preparation is the historical act of filing your return by April 15th. We handle the strategic, forward-looking tax planning and gladly collaborate with your CPA, who will continue to handle your actual tax filings.

  • Planning for business owners directly integrates your company's risks and cash flow with your personal balance sheet. Standard retirement planning usually assumes a steady W-2 paycheck, while our business advisory tackles cash flow volatility, succession planning, and advanced tax structuring to help both your business and personal wealth thrive.
  • Absolutely; we help integrate your business exit strategy directly into your personal financial plan. We collaborate with your legal and tax professionals to structure the exit in a way that is designed to help minimize your tax impact and effectively fund the lifestyle you want in your next chapter.
  • We help you determine your optimal compensation by analyzing both your personal cash flow needs and your business's ongoing capital requirements. We then collaborate directly with your CPA to structure your W-2 salary and owner distributions in a highly tax-efficient way, helping ensure your business retains the reserves it needs to grow.

5. Logistics & Getting Started

  • The discovery meeting is a no-pressure, fit meeting focused entirely on your story, your goals, and the obstacles in your way. You do not need to bring any detailed statements or spreadsheets, just a general idea of your financial picture and a willingness to have an honest conversation about what you want to achieve in your next chapter.
  • We gladly meet in-person or virtually with clients in the Greater Columbus, OH area, and work seamlessly with clients nationwide via secure virtual meetings. Using video conferencing and encrypted document sharing, our virtual planning process is just as personal, secure, and effective as sitting across a desk.
  • Meeting frequency depends on the phase of our work together and the ongoing service model you choose. During the initial Comprehensive Financial Plan phase, we will meet a total of 3 times (including our discovery meeting and 2 working sessions) to build your foundational strategy. After that, if you choose an ongoing partnership, we schedule 3 dedicated strategy reviews throughout each year. If you prefer our hourly model, we meet strictly on an as-needed basis whenever you face a new financial chapter or major decision.
  • No, we do not require long-term contracts. Most of our client relationships begin with a project-based Comprehensive Financial Plan. Once your initial foundation is built, you have the flexibility to choose how we continue working together. Either on an as-needed hourly basis or through an ongoing partnership billed month-to-month. You are always free to pause or cancel ongoing services at any time without penalty or ongoing obligations.
